About Me

My full name is Cátia Keiko de Campos Kitahara. I was born in Mogi das Cruzes, a Great São Paulo area city. I’m a visual artist and UI designer, with a Architecture degree and specialized in Hypermedia Design at Anhembi Morumbi University.

UI Design

From 2002 to 2010 I worked as a freelance UI designer followed by five years as a senior designer and partner at Hacklab, a digital startup specialing in WordPress and Python systems. During this time I also handled graphic design projects, including visual identity systems and other print materials.

I currently specialize in WordPress. I co-founded the Brazilian WordPress Community in 2009 organized the first WordCamp Brazil, a WordPress conference for users and developers. I lead the team managing the software’s translation into Brazilian Portuguese. I helped keep WordPress translations updated and moderated the official Brazilian support forums.

From 2016 to 2020 I worked as Happiness Engineer (support agent) at WordPress.com, the WordPress hosting service ran by Automattic.

Visual Arts

I’m also a visual artist and studied illustration with the super talented teacher Victor Wuo, from whom I learned many techniques – from pencil to ink, gouache to aquarelle, as well as colored pencil, pastel, etc.

Alongside my work as UI designer I have worked on visual arts projects and took many courses including both traditional and web animation.

In 2007 I attended “Narrative image and book illustration” with instructors Odilon Moraes and Fernando Vilela at Tomie Ohtake Cultural Institute.

In 2015 I took classes in aquarelle with Marco Namura, a renowned artist from Mogi das Cruzes.

Over the last three years I joined Life Drawing Practices organized by comic artist Rafa Coutinho and cartoonist Laerte at Espaço Breu in São Paulo.
